SMOKE DETECTORS ……. The Jacinto City Fire Dept. provides UL listed smoke detectors to residents free of charge. The JCFD will also install the detector if needed. These detectors were provided through donations made by several generous local companies. It is important every home be equipped with working smoke detectors, including one outside of each sleeping area. The batteries should be changed once a year on the Sunday in the fall when you set your clocks back. The detectors should also be tested once a month. If you are a Jacinto City resident and are in need of a detector call or come by the fire station to receive one or to schedule an installation. The fire dept. can be contacted at 713-674-1841.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED….. The Jacinto City Fire Dept. is always in need of volunteer fire fighters. This is a rewarding endeavor which is very important to the community. The fire dept. provides all necessary training and equipment. Volunteers are needed for fire fighting and EMS. If you are interested call or come by the station to see if you meet the qualifications.
CHRISTMAS CANDY HANDOUT….. A long standing holiday tradition in Jacinto City has been the Christmas Candy Handout. The project which historically, was funded strictly by donations, was this year graciously underwritten by several businesses including Lone Star Glass. The candy is placed in stockings by our senior citizens for dispersal and the candy is handed out in mid December. Generations of residents come out on the Saturday morning of the handout and take part in a holiday tradition which has been in place since the early 1950's. The pictures below reflect the candy handout for the year 2000 and a picture from the mid 1950's.
